Rats and mice at home or work
Rats or mice in the kitchen, garage or roof space can leave you unsure where to start. We help Hamilton and Waikato homes and businesses with rodent problems. Tell us what you have noticed and where it is happening, and we can discuss the next step.
Rodent control means more than dealing with the animal you see. Understanding the activity, food sources and possible entry points helps inform a suitable response.
RATS & MICE · HAMILTON & WAIKATO
Where rodents are active matters. Tell us whether you have noticed rats or mice inside the building, around outdoor areas, or in both places. A clear quote should explain the proposed response and any follow-up.
Ask which of these are covered in your quote, and what would be quoted separately.
Tell us which rooms, garages or roof spaces are affected, along with any children, pets or access concerns. If you rent, confirm arrangements with your landlord or property manager.
Share sightings near food areas, stock or waste storage, plus your opening hours and access restrictions. Ask what monitoring or records your site may need.
Describe where signs have appeared and keep a note of recent activity. Tell us about children, pets, food storage and any traps or bait already in place. Ask which areas need to be accessible, whether anyone needs to leave and what instructions apply afterwards. For pests inside a building, see our indoor-treatment guidance.
RODENT PREVENTION
Food, shelter and easy access can keep attracting rodents. Alongside treatment, discuss which changes will make the biggest difference at your property.
01
Store food and pet food in secure containers. Reduce the food that rats or mice can reach.
02
Use bins with well-fitting lids and keep food scraps from building up around the property.
03
Clear unnecessary cardboard and clutter that could provide nesting places for rodents.
04
Discuss gaps around doors, pipes and building edges. Confirm who will handle repairs or rodent-proofing work; this may be separate from treatment.
Using traps or bait? Read the New Zealand EPA’s rodent-control precautions and follow the specific instructions for your treatment.
Practical answers before you arrange a visit.
Droppings, gnaw marks, damaged food packaging and sightings can point to rodent activity. Scratching alone does not identify the animal. Tell us where and when you noticed the signs; a description or photo can help explain the problem before a visit.
Contact us for a free quote. Include your Hamilton or Waikato location, property type and the areas affected. Ask whether assessment, treatment, return visits and any removal are included. The quote should make clear what is covered and what would cost extra.
There is no single number of visits that suits every rodent problem. Ask what checks or return visits are proposed, how progress will be assessed and what to do if activity continues. Confirm whether follow-up is part of the quoted service.
Tell us before booking. Rodent poisons and traps require precautions and restricted access. Ask which method is proposed, where it would be placed and how to keep children and animals clear. Follow the instructions for the specific treatment; avoid assuming any option is risk-free.
Do not assume building repairs or proofing work are included. Ask which possible entry points have been identified, what work is recommended and who will carry it out. Confirm whether that work is included in the quote or needs a separate arrangement.
Ask before the appointment. Any access restrictions depend on the treatment and the areas involved. Confirm what applies to people and pets, when each area can be used again and whether there are instructions for cleaning or moving items afterwards.
Tell us your location, the type of property and where you have seen signs. Contact the team to discuss rodent control and a free quote.
